GENERAL

What is a single dose grinder and why should I choose one?

A single dose grinder is designed to grind only the amount of coffee you need for each brew. Instead of storing beans in a hopper, you weigh your beans first, drop them in, and grind fresh. This gives you:

•       Better freshness – no beans sitting exposed in a hopper.

•       Flexibility – switch between different beans easily.

•       Higher accuracy – more consistent dosing and grind quality.

•       Minimal retention – less coffee trapped inside the grinder.

Single dose grinding is ideal for anyone who brews multiple coffees a day or likes exploring different beans.

What is the difference between the ZP-1 and KONOS grinder?

The ZP-1 and DOMUS features 64mm flat burrs, while the KONOS is equipped with 71mm conical burrs. All grinders are capable of handling a full range of grind sizes, from espresso to cold brew.
However, the ZP-1 excels in brews like pour-over, where clarity and precision are key, while the KONOS is optimised for espresso, delivering a rich and consistent extraction.

How do I choose between the conical and flat burr grinder?

It depends on the flavour style you prefer:

•       Flat burrs (ZP-1, DOMUS): cleaner, more defined flavours, slightly more clarity in filter brews.

•       Conical burrs (KONOS): rounder, more balanced cups, especially well-suited for espresso and single origins.

If you brew mostly espresso, especially lighter roasts, conical might be your preference. If you enjoy filter coffee or want sharper separation of flavours, flat burrs may be more suitable.

Are the burrs in the ZP-1 and KONOS interchangeable?

No, the burrs are not interchangeable. The ZP-1 uses 64mm flat burrs, whereas the KONOS is designed for 71mm conical burrs. Their distinct designs and burr mounting mechanisms prevent swapping between the two.

Can you recommend grind settings for various brewing methods?

The grinder offers a versatile range of grind settings to suit a wide array of brewing methods. Below, we've provided a general guideline to help you get started. Keep in mind that the ideal setting might vary depending on the specific characteristics of the beans you're using:

Espresso: Fine grind, settings 1 - 8

Moka Pot: Fine to medium-fine grind, settings 6 - 12

AeroPress: Medium grind, settings 9 - 15

Pour Over / Drip Filter: Medium grind, settings 15 - 24

French Press / Cold Brew: Coarse grind, settings 22 - 30

Experimentation is key, as different beans may respond uniquely to each setting. We encourage you to adjust these recommendations based on your taste preferences and the specific characteristics of your coffee beans.

What brewing methods are the grinders suitable for?

Designed with versatility in mind, all three grinders excel across a spectrum of brewing methods. From the fine precision required for espresso to the coarser textures ideal for French Press, the grinder ensures optimal grind consistency. Its robust motor is specially engineered to handle even the lightest roast coffee beans with ease. Please note, to maintain the integrity and longevity of your grinder, it is recommended to grind coffee beans exclusively, as grinding other materials could compromise the grinder's performance.

Do I need to use the silicone bellows?

The bellows help push out any remaining grounds and keep retention low. While the grinders work without them, using the bellows ensures the most consistent output—especially when switching between beans or brew methods.

Are the grinders suitable for both homeand small café use?

Primarily for home use. They are suitable for small cafés as long as the grinder is not operated continuously, to prevent motor overheating.

Do I need to season the burrs before getting consistent results?

While seasoning is not mandatory, some users prefer to season the burrs with 1 – 2kg of coffee beans.

ZP-1 (flagship flat burr)

What are the differences between the ZP-1's default burr and the DLC burr?

The DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coated burr provides a subtly smoother grinding experience and tends to have a longer lifespan due to its enhanced durability. Users have reported that coffee, particularly single-origin pour-overs, tastes slightly cleaner when ground with the DLC burr. This improvement is attributed to the DLC coating, which helps in reducing friction and wear during grinding, thereby maintaining the coffee's flavour integrity.

What RPM range does the ZP-1 offer?

The ZP-1 offers a wide adjustable RPM range from 600 to 1,300 RPM. This gives you the flexibility to tailor grind speed to different beans, roast levels, and flavour preferences.

Is the ZP-1 suitable for both espresso and filter?

Yes. The ZP-1 is designed as an all-rounder for both espresso and filter brewing. Its 64mm flat burrs, stepless adjustment, and variable RPM give you precise control across the full spectrum of grind sizes—from fine espresso shots to coarse pourover and immersion brews.

Is it possible to use different types of burrs with the ZP-1 grinder?

Yes, the ZP-1 grinder is compatible with other 64mm flat burrs, giving users the flexibility to experiment with different grinding experiences. However, it's important to note that when using burrs not acquired from our website, the included alternative burr holder must be utilised for proper fitting. The DLC burr, on the other hand, is designed to fit seamlessly without the need for changing the burr holder.

What is the workflow like for switching between beans?

Thanks to the ZP-1’s low retention design, you don’t need to “flush” the grinder when changing beans. Simply ensure all the beans have passed through, then use the knocker and/or bellows to clear any residual grounds. This makes it easy to switch between different coffees throughout the day without flavour carry-over.

KONOS (Conical)

KONOS has a lower power rating compared to ZP-1, does this mean it is less powerful?

Not necessarily. Flat burr grinders, like the ZP-1, require more power to grind the same amount of coffee at a given coarseness, particularly when grinding dense, light roast beans. The KONOS, with its conical burrs, operates efficiently at a lower power rating while still delivering excellent grinding performance, especially for espresso.

How does the booster button work and how should I use it?

The booster button gives the grinder a short burst of extra power to run at maximum RPM, helping the last remaining grounds exit the burr chamber more easily—especially when you’re grinding at lower RPM settings.

Use it at the end of your grind cycle: once you hear that all the beans have passed through, press and hold the booster button until no more grounds come out. For the cleanest workflow and minimal
retention, pair this with a few pumps of the bellows and a tap of the knocker.

DOMUS (Entry-level flat burr)

How does the DOMUS differ from the ZP-1?

DOMUS is a simplified, more accessible version of the ZP-1. It retains the core single-dose workflow, 64mm flat burrs, and low-retention design, but removes advanced features such as variable RPM and uses a smaller, more basic motor. The result is a compact, easy-to-use grinder that delivers strong performance at a more affordable price point.

Is DOMUS suitable for espresso and filter grinding?

Yes. DOMUS can grind for both espresso and filter brews with good consistency. While it doesn’t offer the fine RPM tuning of the ZP-1, its stepless adjustment and 64mm flat burr set allow it to handle a wide range of brew methods comfortably—from fine espresso shots to pourover and immersion coffee.

Is DOMUS good for beginners to single-dose grinding?

Absolutely. DOMUS is designed to be straightforward and user-friendly, making it an excellent entry point for anyone new to single-dose grinding. Its simple workflow, minimal retention, and reliable performance let beginners enjoy the benefits of fresh, precise grinding without the complexity of advanced settings.

Is it possible to use different types of burrs with the DOMUS grinder?

Yes, DOMUS is compatible with other 64mm flat burrs, giving users the flexibility to experiment with different grinding experiences. However, it's important to note that when using burrs not acquired from our website, the alternative burr holder must be utilised for proper fitting (to be purchased separately for DOMUS). The DLC burr, on the other hand, is designed to fit seamlessly without the need for changing the burr holder.

WORKFLOW & COMPATIBILITY

Can I switch between grind sizes easily?

Yes. All our single-dose grinders use a stepless adjustment system, allowing you to move smoothly between different grind settings. Because retention is low, you can change grind size and beans without needing to purge large amounts of coffee. Just ensure the previous dose is fully ground, tap the knocker, and use the bellows to clear any remaining grounds before adjusting.

What is meant by "stepless grind adjustment"?

Unlike conventional grinders that limit you to a set of predefined grind settings, our grinder features a stepless grind adjustment mechanism. This design allows for infinite micro-adjustments within the grind size range, affording you unparalleled precision over the grind coarseness. With stepless adjustment, you can fine-tune the grind to match your brewing method perfectly, ensuring the best possible flavour extraction from your coffee beans.

Do the grinders produce clumping? Do I need RDT?

The grinders have an inbuilt ioniser that significantly reduces static and clumping. We do not recommend using RDT, as the added moisture may cause the uncoated burrs to rust over time. For the cleanest workflow, grind dry and use the bellows and knocker to clear any remaining grounds.

MAINTENANCE & TROUBLESHOOTING

What is the recommended cleaning frequency for the ZP-1 grinder?

To ensure your ZP-1 grinder continues to operate at peak performance and to preserve the exceptional quality of your coffee, we recommend a routine cleaning schedule. For casual users, a thorough cleaning once a month is sufficient. However, for daily users, we advise a quick clean of the burrs every week using the cleaning brush provided. For comprehensive cleaning steps and best practices, please consult our detailed cleaning guide.

Do I need to recalibrate the grinder after cleaning?

No. The grinder’s calibration does not change during normal cleaning. Once reassembled, you can continue grinding without needing to reset your zero point.

How come I cannot adjust the grinder for espresso after grinding coarse?

This usually happens when a small piece of coffee becomes trapped between the burrs, preventing the adjustment collar from moving finer. Turn the grinder to the coarsest setting and run it briefly to clear any remnants. If the issue persists, remove the upper burr holder and give the upper and lower burrs a quick brush before adjusting again.

ACCESSORIES & UPGRADES

What accessories are included with each grinder?

Each grinder comes with a dosing cup, lid, cleaning brush, and rubber chute extension. Some models may include additional accessories specific to their design—please refer to the product page for the exact contents.

Can I upgrade burr sets in the future?

Yes. All our single-dose grinders are designed with upgradeable burr chambers. As long as the burr size and mounting pattern are compatible, you can replace the burrs with aftermarket or future WPM options to suit your brewing preferences. A separate burr holder is required to use SSP burrs with ZP-1 and DOMUS (included with ZP-1 only).
